(LISTEN): The decision to rename the University of Ghana is just a diversional tactic – Political Historian

Political Historian Nana Anto Piesie says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s statement that the University of Ghana could be renamed after Joseph Boakye (J.B.) Danquah is just a diversional tactic.

He argued that the president during his tenure has tried to give his forebears a prominent place in Ghanaian history.

This follows the President’s hint that in the future, the prestigious institution could potentially be renamed after J.B Danquah, as a tribute to his unwavering determination and pivotal role in galvanizing the Ghanaian populace to establish the university.

President Akufo-Addo made these comments at the 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the University of Ghana.

But in an Ahotor News Interview, Nana Piesie said renaming the university will not be necessary and it’s just a plot by the President to divert attention from the current happenings in Ghana.

“This is not the first time Nana Addo is warning to rename the University of Ghana to honor J.B Danquah. He made those comments in the past and it was ignored but bringing it up again this time means only one thing, he just wants to divert attention from the current bad things happening under his government” he said.
