Jose Mourinho debunked rumours of going back to Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho’s stint as Real Madrid manager from 2010 to 2013 has divided opinion. Many choose to remember it for the record-making La Liga triumph and him as the one who ended Pep Guardiola’s run at FC Barcelona. Others talk about the manner in which it all ended. The most apt way to describe those three years might be ‘blockbuster

Mourinho brings something to the table that not many can, whether they win more than him or not. The Portuguese icon is a master when it comes to the theatre of football. A guarantee that things will always remain interesting, whether going right or wrong.

There is a certain attraction to that. And unsurprisingly, Mourinho has been linked with a Real Madrid return as Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club is in doubt.

Ancelotti’s current contract with Real Madrid ends next summer. He has been heavily linked with the Brazil national team job. But judging from Mourinho’s comments, it does not look like a return to Santiago Bernabeu is not his mind right now.

“Me at Real Madrid? When you have a super coach, why should you think about another? Knowing Don Florentino, and I know him very well, he is a very intelligent man and has very clear ideas.”

Mourinho seems to be backing Ancelotti to stay on at Real Madrid as well, as the legendary Portuguese manager said:

“I am sure that at the first sign he sees from Florentino, Carlo will stay in Madrid because he is perfect for Real and Real is perfect for him.”

It remains to be seen how things play out. Ancelotti has done a fantastic job in his second stint at Real Madrid, winning every trophy possible over the previous two seasons. That being said, it is hard to see him being handed an extension if the 2023/24 campaign does not turn out to be a successful one.

Unfortunately, Ancelotti has not been dealt the best hand. The squad depth was already questionable to begin with. And then there are the number of injuries that they are dealing with. The start to the season has been great but it would be understandable if their form starts to fade.
