Food and beverages association of Ghana kicked against Govt. plan ban of strategic products

Food and Beverages Association of Ghana (FABAG) has kicked against Government plans to ban importation of strategic products with the presentation of the Legislative Instrument (LI) to parliament.
The items include tomato paste, selected beverages and some food items.

The ministry of Trade and Industry which announce this move says, Ghana spent $164M annually to import animal ruminants, rice’s, and others.


According to the minister for Trade and Industry Hon. K. T Hammond, “the importation of most of our products has become a canker to the extent of collapsing majority of our local products and time is overdue for the government to ban the importation of such products to pave way for our local products to thrive.


Now, the purpose of this particular LI is to sanitize what is it that we bring into the country
But the Executive Chairman of the FABAG association Rev John Awuni believes this move will affect the business of his members. He spoke on Ghana tonight monitored by Ahotor FM news desk.
