(HOT AUDIO): I don’t support EC’s proposal to change the election date and the NDC must be vigilant – Abraham Koomson

The Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) Abraham Koomson says he does not support the proposal by the Electoral Commission (EC) to change the date of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections from December to November.

Mr. Koomson who made this known in an interview with Nana Dogbe on Ahotor 92.3 FM‘s Saturday morning political show, said the NDC needs to be vigilant as he suspects the NPP wants to do something bad.

At the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held last Monday, January 22, 2024, which was attended by the various political parties including the NDC, the commission proposed a shift in the timing of both Presidential and Parliamentary elections, advocating a change from December to November.

In addition to this proposal, the EC also expressed the desire to designate election days as national holidays.

He said since 1992 Ghana has held so many elections on different days so why the sudden change?

The Secretary General of GFL opined that the NPP can’t be trusted as they will do anything to break the 8 so the NDC needs to be vigilant.

Mr. Koomson rejected the explanation that the December 7th, 2024 election day will fall on a Sabbath day.

“If they are saying the election day will fall on a sabbath day when you read Matthew 12:11-12, it says if any of you has a sheep and falls into a pit on the sabbath will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a person than a sheep, therefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath”. he said.
