“Group Advocates for Menstrual Education Support for Girls’ Education”

Madam Lucy Ankrah, the Sunyani West Municipal Coordinator for Schools, highlighted the challenges faced by girls in rural areas when attending school during menstruation. In a media interview, she emphasized the difficulties arising from the prevalence of farming activities in the municipality, which often makes it challenging for families to afford toiletries necessary for menstrual hygiene.

Ankrah expressed concern over the high rate of school absenteeism among girls during their menstrual periods, which hampers their educational progress. To address this issue, she announced the donation of sanitary pads to selected schools within the municipality, aimed at assisting girls in managing their menstruation.

Furthermore, Ankrah urged parents to provide support to their daughters, especially in terms of access to sanitary pads, to ensure that menstruation does not become a barrier to their education. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts to empower girls and enable them to attend school consistently, without being deterred by menstrual challenges.
