Give disables an employment opportunity – GFD

The Federation of Disabilities advocating for total inclusion particularly in the area of employment.

The federation is urging government and cooperate entities to actively promote employment opportunities for its members seeking work.

This call follows the appointment of the first visually impaired person by the University of Cape Coast as a lecturer at the faculty of law.

Disability in Ghana has a massive amount of stigma; children or people who are born disabled or deformed are assumed to be possessed by evil spirits

Although Ghana signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in March 2007, the government took until August 2012 to ratify it

An estimated five million Ghanaians have disabilities, of which 2.8 million have a mental disability, however only one percent of the country’s health budget is earmarked for mental health services

In an interview with Ahotor news, the president of the Ghana Federation of Disabilities Joseph Atsu Hormadzi underscore the vital importance of such appointments.
