Ghanaian screen queen Jackie Appiah has sparked an important conversation in the entertainment industry after sharing her honest thoughts about the motivations of today’s young actors.
Known for her humility, grace, and remarkable talent, Jackie didn’t hold back as she reflected on her early struggles and the passion that fueled her rise to stardom.
Jackie revealed that many young people now enter the movie industry for the wrong reasons.
According to her, some are attracted to the glam — the flashy cars, the fame, and the red carpets — without understanding the sacrifice patience, and genuine love for the craft that the profession demands.
“Some young people today get into acting for the wrong reasons. They see someone like me driving a flashy car and they want that. But probably, acting is not your calling. You need to follow your heart,”
Jackie said, reminding aspiring entertainers that true success begins with passion, not envy.
The award-winning actress went on to share that her love for acting was deep-rooted. Since childhood, the set felt like home.
“I could go on set and you would not give me a check, and I would be happy,” she recalled. “I would not care if I was being paid or not.”
Jackie contrasted this with what she sees today — young actors getting easily agitated when their scenes delayed. Some even threaten to leave a set if they are not filming immediately.
“Really?” she said, surprised. “I would come to set for days and they would not shoot my scene, but I was just happy to be amongst actors.”
Jackie believes that genuine growth comes from loving the work, respecting the process, and embracing every moment — even the waiting.
