The Electoral Chairperson Jean Mensah is sending a signal of unconcern and attitude of dictatorship towards national assignment of District Assembly election as some of the polling station visited at the opening of polls as at 9:00am most of the biometric verification machines are not working.
The voters are disappointed this morning at the turn of events where she suggested the EC is not going to use indelible ink this time round above all she is optimistic to close the polls at 3pm.
The local government expert Issaka Amon Kotei said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Nana Dogbey in Accra.
He totally disagree with the chairperson empty proposal to structures and measures putting in place going into the district assembly elections which turn to chaotic this morning where there was general delays in some centers with the EC officials to help voters to cast the votes.
Though in a presser the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana says adequate measures have been put in place to ensure that the upcoming district-level elections are free and fair.
According to the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa, records show that not many people participated in this election; therefore, the commission has taken steps to ensure that everything goes well.
“Experience over the years shows that this election is not highly participated in and we would like to entreat all Ghanaians and assure them that the Electoral Commission has put in place all arrangements, all necessary arrangements and modalities have been put in place for a smooth incident-free election and we will like to entreat all Ghanaians to take their time to go to their polling stations to cast their votes,” she said.
He further stated that, all the democratic institutions in the country must rise up to check and engage the EC to be up and doing to collaborate and exchange ideas on national election to forestall this teething problems which always occurs in all our election.
Issaka Amon Kotei , opine that the EC must open her does for wider consultation and must stop dictating at IPAC meetings to allowed major stakeholders to work out a national programme with national interest to help resolve all this major problems with the verification machines to protect the sanctity of the election to be free and fair.
He therefore reiterated that, we should pay much attention to the people at the grassroots level by protecting their interest and welfare since they are the backbone of our democracy and major beneficiaries of good governance.
