District assemblies are in financial distress —Ibrahim Mumuni

Twelve quarters of district assembly common funds is in areas through the financial capping with the funds allocated to the assembly which is in delays and has affected the development of the assemblies throughout the country is very unfortunate as a result of corruption and mismanagement.

A lot of ongoing projects have been abandoned and these cause a lot of waste in the assemblies, since funds release for these projects cannot be accounted through cronyism and job for the boys who are affiliated to the political parties in power.

The Director of Operations for ADAM GH Ibrahim Mumuni (BABS) said this on the Simpieso political hosted by Emmanuel Amartey (Alaska De Don) in Accra.

He is of the view that local projects must been given to local contractors to build local capacity to enhance the local economy, is totally missing in contract allocation under the New Patriotic Party.

All the projects are not allocated on the grounds of competence rather on party lines and contractors who are not part of the locality, doing their best to deny the local communities their share of source of income and employment opportunity.

Speaking on the political platform is the former Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Cudjo Adukpo said the perfect system of the district assembly system a resemblance of the national parliament has been destroy by the New Patriotic Party government. All financial system of budgeting and working committees of the assembly has been compromised by the central government through establishment of political desk at the office of the president.

This he said has affected the income generating activities of the assembly; where all the District Chief Executives are now looking to the central government for all financial support for development, since development of the local economy has been disconnected through the central control from the presidency.
