“Deep Seated Anger Boiling beneath Muslim Communities”- Sheikh Aremeyaw

The Chief Spokesperson for the office of the National Chief Imam, Sheihk Aremeyaw Shaibu has reiterated the rage and revolt amongst the youths in the Muslim Community if not addressed through a proper peace vetting process and circumspection could result in religious impasse.

His assertion was occasioned by Comments made by the Minister of Science and Environment, Prof. Frimpong Boateng who in a subtle admonition suggested that, Muslims should consider using   electronic social media (Whatsapp messenger, text) to interface with each other on their presence for prayers at the Mosque rather than use of Megaphones which pollutes the environment with cacophonous noise which stirs environmental pollution.

This Comment by the Minister touched the belly button and sensitivity of some Muslim clerics, Imams as well as pressure groups in the Muslim fraternity who vehemently took a swipe at Prof. Frimpong Boating for spewing such belligerent and segregated comments.

The issue which stoked furore and disquiet in predominantly Muslim’s suburbs in Ghana also went viral on active social media platforms and cable mediums on the international front, with many calling on the embattled minister to unreservedly render an unqualified  apology to the  Muslims Communities.

But the minister has since remained unperturbed and adamant to heed to ‘wise counsel’ by numerous calls on him to either disassociate himself or apologies profusely in the national interest.

Sheikh Aremeyaw on the sidelines of the raging comments has stated on several occasions that the minister was  taken out of contest and further appealed for calm to prevail in the resolve of the matter.

He revealed with  magnanimity that there’s growing ‘heat’ and tension ravaging the quarters’ of the Muslim society which ought to be looked at with tact and immense concern by top echelons and religious elders in the society.

He exclaimed and retorted “there’s something that is boiling under which is waiting for the opportunity to explode”

Sheikh Aremeyaw remarked on TV3 on Wednesday April 18, 2018.

He explained he has not taken the things likely after he took a median position on the matter when the issue gained public outrage with several disgruntled and aggrieved Muslims trolling him for taken sides with the Minister.

An accusatory instinct which he has strongly objected and denied.

He contended the statement by itself was premised by wrong perception which is deep seated in the Muslim Community.

Similarly he bemoaned the media is partly to blame for channeling panic commentaries and incendiary rebuttals when the issue broke out couple of weeks ago.

And admitted he’s suffered a barrage of insults and name calling after he sought to appeal for clemency over the matter.

He posited Ghana has been the cradle and beacon of peace and tranquility in enviable stature, which ought to be safeguarded for posterity.

He recommended peace mediation bodies like, the Christian counsel ,  National Peace Counsel, Civil Societies, Nongovernmental Organizations(NGOs)to come on board to foil the perceived rage and feud which have engulfed the  comments uttered by the Environment and Science  minister.

He called on the security agencies and allied peace safeguarding institutions to find ways to avert any unforeseen acrimony and resentment which has the tendency to result in a billowing thick cloud of religious upheavals in the country.
