December inflation drops to 23.2%

In December 2023, inflation continued its downward trend for the fifth consecutive month, with a recorded rate of 23.2%, indicating a 23.2% increase in the general price level compared to December 2022.

The month-on-month inflation between November 2023 and December 2023 was 1.2%, as per the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released on Wednesday, January 10. Notably, food inflation was at 28.7%, while non-food inflation stood at 18.7%.

Breaking it down further, locally produced items experienced a 23.8% inflation rate, whereas imported items had a slightly lower rate of 21.9%.

Regionally, the Eastern region reported the highest food inflation rate at 51.3%, while the Upper East recorded the lowest at 18.8%In contrast, Greater Accra placed 14th among the 16 regions, with a food inflation rate of 22.2% in December 2023.
