Black Stars need six years to win AFCON – Sammy Kuffour

“There is a  difference between Preparation and Planning. Preparation is different from Planning, we prepare to win tournaments and fail to plan towards it and that’s why we have not won the AFCON trophy in a long time,”

Former Ghanaian International, Samuel Osei Kuffour says, Ghana needs at least six years in order to win the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to the Former Bayern Munich centre back, we have been preparing for tournaments and do not plan for them and that makes it difficult to win the trophy.

“Preparation is different from planning. We prepare to win tournaments and fail to plan towards it and that’s why we have not won the AFCON trophy in a long time,” he said.

The Black Stars have won the AFCON for four times but failed to win it since 1982.

Sammy Kuffour played for national teams for thirteen years and won his first cap as a 17-year-old in a game against  Sierra Leone on 28 November, 1993.

He had previously been part of every national team – junior, youth and Olympic level – and became the full squad’s captain  at the age of 23 and ended with more than 50 caps for the Black Stars.

He won individual awards such as:

Top 30 Best African Players of All-Time

Ghana Player of the Year 1998, 1999, 2001

Intercontinental Cup Winner

Most Valuable Player of the Match Award: 2001
