Beyond Education:Kpone-Katamanso Needs Infrastructure Boost

The Municipal Education Director for Kpone-Katamanso, Mr. Harry Evans Arthur, has made a report on education performance in the municipality which has improved significantly, rising from 69% in 2020 to 95% currently. He highlighted measures implemented to support students with disabilities and showcased STEM projects undertaken in the municipality.

He appealed to the government and individuals to support infrastructure development in schools, citing it as a major challenge. He emphasized that while students are academically sound, they lack adequate infrastructure.

Mr. Arthur pointed to specific initiatives driving this progress, including targeted teacher training programs and the integration of digital tools in classrooms. Our STEM projects, such as innovation labs in select schools, have sparked creativity among students, with several entries winning regional competitions, he noted during a recent stakeholder forum in Kpone. These efforts have not only boosted pass rates but also prepared youth for Ghana’s growing tech-driven economy.

Despite these gains, crumbling school buildings, overcrowded classrooms, and insufficient libraries remain persistent hurdles. In a tour of affected facilities, the Director demonstrated leaking roofs and outdated desks that disrupt learning, especially during the rainy season. Our children excel in exams, but without proper facilities, their potential is capped.

Mr. Arthur urged philanthropists and the Education Ministry to prioritize equity, warning that neglect could reverse hard won gains. Investing in infrastructure today ensures Kpone’s students lead tomorrow’s innovations, he concluded.
