Former Chief Justice (CJ) Sophia Akuffo says the Lithium deal between the government of Ghana and Barari DV Ghana Limited is not in the best interest of Ghanaians.
She said she disagreed with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Jinapor and President Akufo Addo for saying the deal is the best Ghana has had.
“Maybe is the best Ghana has had but not the best Ghana could have had”, she said.
Sharing her view on the deal that has caused residents of Efutu in the central region to demonstrate against the government and the leadership of the region, Madam Akuffo said undue benefits need to be flowing somewhere, and that is when somebody will see the deal as perfect.
According to her, all kinds of Lithium extraction formats are much better and lease is not necessarily the best methodology.
She mentioned joint venture, service contract, and others which is better than what we have now.
Sophia Akuffo called on Ghanaians and the central regional fraternity to call for a better deal than what we have on the table now.
