In the 2020 presidential election President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has scored about 11,342 votes from the three constituencies in the Volta region. According to the results North Tongu constituency polled 4,149, South Tongu, 4,249, and Central Tongu polled 3,951.
It’s very unfortunate and reckless for the president to make such a political statement, to the chief and people of the Volta region, in this tragic and devastation they are in as a result of the flood.
The Akwapem North Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ahmed Agbenyadzi, disclosed this on the Simpieso political show programme on Ahotor FM 92.3 in Accra.
He called on the president to desist from a political statement in these difficult times where the president must be forthright to tackle the flood situation head-on to find a lasting solution to this human disaster.
Ghana belongs to all of us, and he entreats the president to address this flood problem the way he rallies all Ghanaians during the COVID-19 national epidemic.
Reacting, to the attorney general statement that he could not see any evidence in Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s galamsey reports was very unfortunate and bizarre.
This he said is an act of impunity to cover up for the president and for family and friends who are part of the corruption cases level against people in the government.
Speaking on the same platform, the National Democratic Congress Communication officer for Shai-Osudoku Constituency Dennis Adjannor Nartey said the flood disaster has affected Eastern Volta and part of Greater Accra.
He opined that the Volta River Authority must take part of the blame for not taking a pragmatic plan by considering the source of the water from Bagri Dam spillage to stagger the spillage from Akosombo and Kpong dams respectively.
He is of the view that there is a need for the government to respond to the major challenges by putting measures in place to check the spread of any epidemic in the affected regions.
Dennis Adjannor Nartey, in his opinion, calls for an investigation of negligence on the part of the engineers of the VRA staff to explain what actually happened and why this time round the authority was not able to help control the spillage, with human face to save life and properties.
