I followed the United Nations session in New York as presidents from around the world delivered their addresses. When it was Ghana’s turn, I watched Nana Addo approach the podium and immediately turned off my TV. I had no interest in listening to a president lacking integrity. It was telling that the hall was nearly empty.
Last week, I learned that the government was meeting with organized labor regarding galamsey. This indicates to me that the fight against galamsey is lost, despite Nana Addo having staked his presidency on winning this battle. With only three months left in his term, it’s astonishing he had the audacity to represent Ghana at the UN while his government still struggles with galamsey. Nana Addo’s integrity is clearly in question.
Is this not the same Nana Addo who stated that, whether Ghanaians like it or not, the National Cathedral would be built and commissioned by March 2024? He has spent over $55 million, yet the foundation has yet to be laid. The Nana Addo/Bawumia government may go down in history as the most ineffective administration Ghana has ever seen. I doubt any future government will waste resources to this extent. Their behavior resembles that of some of the worst governments worldwide; even countries without stable governments have better economies than Ghana.
The Kumasi Sports Stadium is banned by CAF, and thus by FIFA. This government claims to have constructed 150 AstroTurf pitches across the country, yet we lack a single pitch that meets CAF standards. They clearly cannot prioritize effectively. It’s evident that the Nana Addo/Bawumia government does not have Ghana’s best interests at heart; their focus seems solely on the next election.
And what is Dr. Bawumia saying? He claims he will debate John Mahama anytime, anywhere on the economy. I welcome the opportunity to debate Dr. Bawumia anytime, anywhere.
Does Dr. Bawumia understand the impact of galamsey on our economy? Does he realize how $55 million could have benefited our economy instead of being wasted on the National Cathedral? Is he aware of the economic implications of the ban on the Kumasi Stadium? The cedi is currently at GHC 17.00 to the dollar. Does he comprehend how this affects the economy? The NDC is proposing a 24-hour economic policy—does Dr. Bawumia know its potential impact? They’re also introducing a Women Development Bank—does he understand the economic significance of that?
I don’t entirely blame him, as he seems to have a following of those whom Hon. Ken Agyapong described as fools, despite Dr. Bawumia offering no substantial insights. It’s increasingly clear that the Akyem Mafia is using Dr. Bawumia as a pawn, and by 2028, they will likely seek another candidate.
Vote for number 8, and vote for the Umbrella. Aba no Mahama afa.
