Abraham Koomson, the General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), has raised concerns about the daily job losses in the textile sector.
He believes the 2024 mid-year budget should have addressed the critical issues facing the Ghanaian textile manufacturing industry.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu program with host Nana Dogbe, Mr. Koomson said the government could have taken practical measures to reduce the influx of imported and smuggled local branded textiles that are flooding the market.
He urged Ghanaians to vote out the NPP in the upcoming elections to save jobs and prevent further unemployment.
Mr. Koomson warned that if the NPP remains in power, unemployment might increase even more.
Mr. Koomson emphasized the need for Ghanaians to hold the NPP government accountable for economic mismanagement and rising corruption.
He called for the prosecution of corrupt officials to deter future administrations from engaging in corrupt practices.
He urged Ghanaians to unite and support the NDC to remove the NPP from power.

Commenting on the reintroduction of road tolls by the government, Mr. Koomson called for the former Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, to be charged with causing financial loss to the state.
He criticized Mr. Amoako-Atta’s unilateral decision to halt road toll payments across the country, explaining that toll payments were mandated by an Act of Parliament.
Mr. Koomson argued that the minister’s decision to abolish tolls without parliamentary approval resulted in revenue shortfalls for the government, and he believes Mr. Amoako-Atta should be held accountable for this financial loss.
