Let’s expedite action on affirmative bill —- Angela Oforiwa Alorwu-Tay

International Women’s Day, observed annually on Friday, March 8, has been a celebration of women’s achievements for over a century, serving as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to forge a better world.

In commemorating International Women’s Day 2024, themed ‘Investing in women: Accelerate progress,’ the International Labour Organization highlights the essential and inseparable roles of decent work and gender equality.

Angela Oforiwa Alorwu-Tay, the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Afadjato South, shared her perspective on the Adekyee Mu Nesm morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

Alorwu-Tay emphasizes that supporting International Women’s Day requires simple gestures, such as expressing love and concern to help promote the welfare of women across all career spheres for national development. Additionally, she calls on parliament and authorities to expedite the passage of the affirmative action bill, aiming to assist women in finding their rightful place in society.

Addressing the broader context, this year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” calls for action to dismantle barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create environments where all women are valued and respected.

Alorwu-Tay reiterates the importance of recognizing the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, particularly those from marginalized communities at every level of society.

Expressing her opinion, she points out that women face challenges in obtaining leadership positions or top pay, even in industries they dominate, as indicated by a watchdog report. Participating in International Women’s Day, she believes, can drive the recognition needed. “When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.”

Alorwu-Tay concludes by encouraging a day filled with love, respect, and recognition, urging everyone to keep shining, smiling, and inspiring those around them. On International Women’s Day, she calls for honoring the incredible women who pave the way for progress and equality, wishing that their light shines brightly and guides others.
