Nigerian famous singer Simi has pronounced up against the words of a female preacher who noted that women need to parcel themselves and waterway their natural hair for wigs to find suitors.
After a viral video of a preacher surfaced, a singer shared her thoughts on Twitter about the negative impact of the preacher’s message on women. The singer believes that the preacher is promoting self-hate among women, which leads many young women to feel uncomfortable in their skin and resort to bleaching their skin to lighten their tones.
According to Simi, women face difficulty in accepting and loving themselves when they come across negative comments about their natural hair. She strongly disagreed with the preacher who propagated harmful stereotypes by suggesting that women must abandon their natural hair to appear attractive. Simi criticized the preacher for being a bad role model and giving poor advice to young girls.
Her tweet read, “Even when you hide self-hate inside “good advice”, it’s still self-hate. This is why 90% of skin care products in countries full of beautiful dark skin girls/women are “whitening creams”. And girls are told that the hair that grows out of their hair is not special enough. It’s not that you’re not good enough, it’s that they said you’re not good enough. She’s on the pulpit too. A role model. Lol. Wetin God no send una, na hin una like to dey do.”
