VRA is sitting on problems without a plan for the spillage – Charles McCarthy

It will not be mind-boggling if we can describe the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as a disaster zone, since the institution needs more strategic management manpower than any institution in the midst of the challenge of the Akosombo dam spillage.

The strategic institution has become a dumping place for party foot soldiers, family and friends sympathizers of political parties any time a new government comes into power.

The institution which needs to serve as a major safe haven for people and communities who are in need of settlement and rescue assistance is rather in distress without a warehouse, rescue operations equipment, and other coordinated operation systems to manage major national disasters facing the country through this manmade disaster.

The Editor of Hawk Newspaper and Plainspoken Adviser Charles McCarthy said this on Simpieso’s political show on Ahotor 92.3 FM in Accra and hosted by Emmanuel Martey (Alaska De Don).

He decried that since the havoc from the spillage over the past three weeks, the Volta River Authority could not be in a position to convince the citizens with any factual information from any hydrologist why the unfortunate disaster happened to the communities and livelihood of the people along the river banks.

He opined that the political leadership of the country has failed Ghanaians and the youth of the country in handling our own manmade disaster. He is of the view that the technical and engineers at VRA are just waiting for the weather to rescue us through the harmattan since there is no plan to redirect the spillage water to its safe destination.

He reiterated that it’s just unfortunate and bizarre, that VRA has not constructed a spillage way, dredging of the Volta lower basin and settlement place for the people along the river banks and rescue team that will recover the victims that will be affected when the spillage commences.

Speaking on the same programme Mr. Kwadwo Yeboah Former New Patriotic Party Organiser of Ayawaso West Constituency, said the country’s leadership is in disarray where the government lacks the vision and direction to solve the major problems confronting the country.

He stated that he was disappointed in the statement from Prof. Stephen Adei the Former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration since he was part of the government and part of the decision-making for the past seven years and it’s unfortunate he could not speak to this ills and corruption going on in President Akufo-Addo’s government; when he was part of the government where he enjoys the goodwill and benefits from. This he said.
