Declare the affected spillage communities public health hazard zone – Charles Akwasi Agbeve

The Akosombo and Kpong water spillage and its related havoc are gradually worsening day in and day out as the plight of the victims continues to count looses and the headache associated with settlement and likely outbreak of epidemic from water-borne disease is threatening.

There is a need to declare the affected areas from the spillage public health hazard zone to attract the emergency national public health attention to attend to affected victims.
The Hon. Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope constituency Charles Akwasi Agbeve in the Volta region, disclosed this on Adekye Mu Nsem‘s morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM in Accra hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu.

He is of the view that it’s on record that about 25 communities in the Southern part of the Volta region affected by the spillage could not have the chance to visit periodic reviews of health centers associated with primary health care since all the hospital’s area are not accessible for this support health service.

This he noted, called for a public health emergency zone, associated with a helicopter and mobile clinic health team to create a location for a medicine drop-off zone to care for the aged and those who are managing daily medication.

Hon. Charles Akwasi Agbeve reiterated that quick and rapid free health care in the affected areas where he believes most of them could have lost their National Health Insurance Card with free health care and medication has to be addressed as a matter of emergency.

He expresses his disappointment on the part of the president and the national health team’s negligence in responding to the health needs of the people in the affected areas is not forthcoming, the relief work and other assistance are left in the hands of the members of parliament and health teams coming from the area, and Volta caucus in parliament; this he said is very unfortunate and disappointing.

Hon. Charles Akwasi Agbeve reiterated that he is totally disappointed in the president’s speech, where he lowered the problem and situation confronting the people in the affected area into tribal politics.

This he thinks can be solved if the president and his intelligence should have been forthright to deal with this at its primary stage where the havoc from the spillage can be managed well.
