The Ghana Bar Conference is facing allegations of being used as a political campaign platform.
This is coming from the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, Edudzi Tamakloe who claims it has become a tool for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to campaign against John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming 2024 elections.
His reaction follows a speech delivered by the president on Monday, September 11, 2023 during this year’s Ghana Bar Association Annual Conference in Cape Coast.
In his speech, he appeared to target former president John Mahama who had previously declared that, he’s not going to be a clearing agent president.
He emphasized that his government’s anti-corruption efforts set an unmatched precedence in Ghana’s history since gaining independence.
“Every single alleged act of corruption levelled against any of my appointees has been investigated by independent bodies such as CHRAJ and CID. It is not my role to clear or convict any person accused of wrong doing or engaging in acts of corruption; that is the responsibility of the courts and law enforcement agencies”.
Reacting to President Nana Addo’s speech, Edudzi wrote on Facebook; “The Ghana Bar Conference has become a dubious campaign platform for the NPP to campaign against John Mahama in election 2024. The evidence is that Akufo Addo at the Conference asked voters to vote against John Mahama. The Bar executives must be ashamed for turning the Bar into an NPP campaign platform”.
