John McGinn responds to Rodri’s comments about Scotland’s style of play.
John McGinn play’s as a midfielder for Premier League club Aston Villa, of which he is captain, and the Scotland national team, he backed Scotland’s style of play after beating Spain by two goals to nil.
He said this in an interview after the international break, when Manchester City star Rodri was not happy with the home side’s tactics at Hampden Park, and however, accused them of wasting time to see victory, after a shocking 2-0 defeat in the Euro 2024 qualifiers, which is moved Scotland to the top of Group A with two goals from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
This was what Rodri, the captain of Spain said:
“It’s the way they play, at the end, you have to respect it, but for me, it’s a bit rubbish. they are always wasting time, they provoke you, and they always fall. This for me is not football,” he told ViaPlay after the game.
“The referee says nothing and it’s a bit frustrating because we want to win. It’s difficult because they waste time. But they have their weapons, and we will learn about that next time.”
John McGinn responded by saying:
“Wasting time? Absolutely! If anyone expects us to go head-to-head with Spain in a tiki-taka battle for 90 minutes and come away with three points? No chance.”
“I speak for myself but a lot of Scottish players will come back to their clubs with a spring in their step”
John McGinn is still ridding off the high from Scotland’s wins over Scotland and Cyprus.
