Former England manager Hodgson says he is happy to be back in management after leaving Watford last summer.
Hodgson, who was unable to prevent Watford from dropping into the Championship last term, was surprised to be approached by Palace but believes his pensionable age is misleading.
The 75-year-old is back at Palace after being appointed as Patrick Vieira’s successor until the end of the season, with Hodgson tasked with guiding his boyhood club to survival.
Palace currently sits 12th in the Premier League with 27 points from 28 games, with the Eagles three points above the relegation zone and four above bottom club Southampton.
In an interview via the club’s website today ahead of his first game, the former Liverpool boss said;
“It’s so easy to lose confidence and let the black dog take over,” claiming that the Palace squad may have been suffering from a lack of faith in themselves on the pitch.
Asked if he was too old for the job or will continue beyond this season, the former Inter Milan gaffer said his age and the way he feels are very different when it comes to football management.
“I’ve never felt old enough to retire and there is no discussion about that at all.” Roy Hodgson answers whether he would consider the Crystal Palace job beyond this season.
