The dollar has dropped so reduce fuel prices and transport fares – Abeiku Santana
Ghanaian veteran broadcaster, Abeiku Santana has called on Authorities to tell the right authorities to reduce fuel prices, lorry fares, and prices of goods and services.
On December 13, 2022, the US dollar depreciated, thereby, trading against the cedis at a buying rate of 11.4943 and a selling price of 11.5058. A few days ago, the dollar was initially selling at Ghc14.000
Due to this development, Ghanaians are guessing that the prices of food and fares will be reduced.
However, it has been reported that traders and services are refusing to reduce the prices of their commodities and services
Due to that, Abeiku Santana has called on the appropriate authorities to start arresting persons and institutions who are still charging outrageous prices for goods and services.
He said; “I’m pleading with the Bulk Oil Distributors. The dollar’s value has declined so pls reduce the prices of your fuel. Oil marketing companies should also reduce their prices. Just as the dollar is declining every day, you need to also reduce your prices every day. Drivers and transport operators who have increased their prices, now the dollar is going down, it’s time to cut down your prices. The police also need to start arresting those who are still charging outrageous prices,” he said.
He added that ‘‘the worst of all is the fact that at Ports and Harbours, the exchange rate is still Ghc15, 000 or sometimes Ghc14, 00 against the dollar despite the decline in the US currency.
