Stop stealing old songs – Bernard Amankwah to upcoming musicians

According to Veteran gospel musician, Rev. Bernard Amankwah, most of these new musicians take the intellectual property of aged musicians without their consent in an interview. He described this act as wrong.

Gospel musicians have found a way of modernizing old songs and claiming them as their own without the people’s consent.

“What I don’t like about today’s musicians is the way they steal people’s songs. They remix older folks’ songs without crediting them. It’s very bad on their side. Music is a spirit, and whoever wrote the song, you don’t how God gave it to him or her,” he said.

He added that “The song is someone’s intellectual property. So if you want to remake it, do it the right way. Go and seek his or her consent. “Even if the owner is no more, they have families. Go and see the family and ask them politely. They may give to them for free. Sometimes you just have to credit the owner. That’s all they require.”
