Chiefs and Residents cry for development in their area.

The Chiefs and people of Asiaw, in the Eastern Region have called for the provision of basic amenities.

Asiaw community has no school and clinic with poor road networks coupled with electrification problem.

Chief of Asiaw, Nana James Sawyer, in an interview with Adwoa Frimpomaa   of Ahotor 92.3fm news noted that, “I was born here and I grew up in this place, I have never seen any school in our locality with the exception of the one at Akwane Dobro  where pupils as young as 6 years walk miles away to access formal education

‘In this place for so many years, there are no electricity poles, let alone talk about wires and power supply.” He said.

Nana Sawyer said apart from the electricity, water, clinic and road issues, the community’s only basic school which is a school under tree, is  their own initiative which they have cut palm fronds and used as iron sheets, is not even helping because anytime the weather becomes cloudy, school has to close and pupils have to go home and come the next day.

Adding that, any time it rains, lessons cannot go on and pupils have to run home

The school is near a cemetery so pupils are sometimes afraid when they hear any little noise.

Nana James Sawyer said it is the church of Pentecost who have given their premises for the upper ones to use from basic five (5) to JHS three whiles the lower ones sit under the open space to learn which is not helping the teaching and learning at all with all the distractions.

Nana James Sawyer said because the structure of the school, some pupils are not attracted to even come because they say if they are to come to school and sit under trees roofed with palm fronds, they would be at the risk of snake attacks. They therefore prefer staying home.

The chief quoted an instance a snake fell from the tree. However, it did not bite anyone because teachers where able to kill it.

The Chief said he has vast acres of land to build schools, bungalows for teachers and also a clinic.

Due to the deplorable nature of the roads, only motorbikes ply it and charges exorbitant, a situation he noted was affecting them economically.

‘It is so pathetic when you see women who are in labour and being carried on motor bikes on these deplorable roads, some women even give birth on the middle of the road’. He added.

Nana Sawyer disclosed that, MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Annor Dompreh has given them 100 bags of cement but that alone cannot build a school so he is appealing to the government, the MCE, Isaac Kwadwo Buabeng and any NGO come to their aid.
