Contractor Closes Down Newly Constructed School Building Over Unpaid Money

A building contractor has closed down 2 newly built school blocks in the Adansi North District in the Ashanti region. In 2020, Eric Opoku of Erico Company Limited in Obuasi was contracted to construct two classroom blocks, Bena D/A and Old Akrofrom D/A primary school.

He started the building project with his money since he hails from Adansi and said he wanted the well being of the community. Since 2020, Eric Opoku claims he has not been paid and this led to him shutting down the two classroom blocks. He mentioned that the government is supposed to pay him GH₵ 440,000 but he has not received a penny and the building is near completion.

On 17th January this year, he went to lock the buildings but after some negotiations with the leaders, he opened the classroom as he was promised to be paid soon. After several months of not being paid, he has gone to lock up the schools again.
