Black Stars: Chris Hughton to be appointed as Head coach

Ahotor Sports can confirm that Christopher William Gerard Hughton will be named the Black Stars’ head coach soon.

Information gathered by Ahotor FM revealed that Borussia Dortmund released Otto Addo for only the World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

For the final FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers against Nigeria, Hughton was selected to provide technical support to Otto Addo (Interim Coach), George Boateng (First Assistant), and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani (2nd Assistant).

The 63-year-old coach was chosen as Technical Advisor to the team by the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council on Wednesday, February 9.

After nonstop end-to-end action at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, the Black Stars were held to a goalless stalemate in the first leg.

The return leg match, which took place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, was a thrilling battle between the two great West African rivals. In the 11th minute, Thomas Partey gave Ghana the lead, but William Troost-Ekong equalized for the Super Eagles in the 22nd minute.

Ghana, on the other hand, qualified for their fourth World Cup after edging out Nigeria on the away goal rule after the 1-1 draw.

Otto Addo, who joined Kwesi Appiah as the second Ghanaian player to qualify the Black Stars as head coach for the World Cup, was freed for the two games. The source revealed that it will be difficult to keep him since he has signed a new contract with Dortmund.
