A Political Analyst, Richmond Owusu Frimpong has expressed worry on the way and manner the e-levy was passed in parliament yesterday March 29, 2022
According to him, what happened in parliament was unconstitutional
Speaking to Ahotor news this evening, March 30, he indicated that, the passage is illegal and unconstitutional because members present at the time fell short of the required 138 quorum under Article 104(1) of the 1992 Constitution as affirmed recently by the Supreme Court
He admonished the president to remember he is a lawyer to know better the passage was illegal
“Mr. President shouldn’t forget he is a lawyer, he should be remembered that he is a lawyer, Incase he has forgotten”
“Is what they did in parliament constitutional? Per the supreme court ruling if the president signs this bill into law, he has signed an illegality” he said
In any case, he added, “e-levy is regressive, divisive and injustice”
Parliament yesterday passed the e-levy in the absence of the minority MPs who had walked out before the bill was considered at the second reading stage
The Minority had complained that, they were taken by surprise by the unexpected consideration of the e-levy because it was not captured in parliament business for this week
