TEMA, Ghana, 28 March: The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to begin a comprehensive assessment of his appointees to ensure effective governance.
According to Mr. Koomson, the time has come for the President to evaluate the performance of individuals in key positions and relieve those who are underperforming of their duties, while bringing in competent individuals with fresh ideas to drive national development.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, March 28, he expressed concern that some appointees may be undermining the President’s efforts through poor performance in their respective sectors.
He stressed that such lapses could negatively affect the government’s broader agenda if not addressed promptly.
Citing the ongoing water shortages in parts of Tema, Mr. Koomson noted that the government’s flagship 24-hour economy policy cannot succeed without reliable access to water.
He therefore called for a critical review of the performance of officials at Ghana Water Limited to ensure they are delivering on their mandate.
He pointed out that while the power sector previously faced significant challenges, electricity supply has now stabilised an example he believes the water sector can learn from in addressing its own difficulties.
Mr. Koomson further emphasised the need for continuous monitoring and evaluation of all appointees, noting that their performance directly impacts the President’s success.
He warned that ineffective leadership within government institutions could create unnecessary problems for the administration if not swiftly corrected.
