For many people, selling roasted plantains by the roadside may seem like just a small business, but for Patrick, it has become a source of livelihood, a means of educating his children, and a pathway to owning a home.
Patrick, who sells roasted plantain around the Accra Mall area, says the business has helped him provide for his family and build his own house through years of hard work and determination.
“I started selling plantain to take care of my family. Through this business, I have been able to build my own house and support my children,” Patrick said.
Despite the challenges associated with roadside trading, Patrick has remained committed to his work.
The income he earns from selling plantain has played an important role in taking care of his family and supporting the education of his children.
“It has not always been easy, but I kept working because I knew that if I stayed committed, I could achieve something for myself and my family,” he said.
Patrick is a father of three. His first child is married and has a child, making him a proud grandfather. His second child is currently a Level 200 student at the University of Ghana, while his youngest has recently completed Senior High School.
According to Patrick, seeing his children progress in life is one of the greatest rewards of his years of hard work.
“My children are my motivation. I want to see them succeed and have better opportunities in life,” he said.
His achievements demonstrate how a small business, when managed with dedication and discipline, can improve the life of an individual and an entire family.
Patrick’s journey also challenges the perception that success can only be achieved through white-collar employment. His roasted plantain business has provided more than a daily income; it has helped him build a home, educate his children and create a better future for his family.
