24-Hour Economy Law Takes Off with GHS110 Million Allocation – President Mahama Reveals

ACCRA, Ghana, 27 February: President John Dramani Mahama has announced the full rollout of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Programme following the passage and signing of its enabling legislation.

The President revealed that GHS110 million has been allocated in the 2026 Budget to commence implementation of the transformative policy, which is aimed at expanding round-the-clock economic activity, increasing productivity, strengthening value chains, and creating sustainable jobs across key sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and services.

The 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, passed by Parliament on February 6, 2026, establishes the legal and regulatory framework to coordinate and oversee the nationwide rollout of the initiative.

With the President’s assent, the programme now moves from policy design to full-scale execution.

President Mahama described the initiative as one of the boldest economic reforms in recent years, intended to reposition Ghana as a competitive production and export-driven economy.

Implementation will be undertaken in collaboration with strategic financial institutions, including the Development Bank Ghana and the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, to mobilise private capital, support businesses to extend operating hours, and unlock new investment opportunities.

According to President Mahama, the programme is central to the broader economic reset agenda and is designed to accelerate industrialisation, reduce unemployment particularly among the youth and stimulate inclusive growth nationwide.
