2024 Elections: The six conditions under which NDC will sign peace pact.

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, reaffirming the party’s stance not to commit to any peace pact ahead of the 2024 General Elections is a significant move.

By setting six conditions, including requiring key figures like the President and the Inspector-General of Police to sign the pact, Nketia has placed strong emphasis on accountability and implementation of prior recommendations, such as those from the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.

This indicates that the NDC is prioritizing issues such as electoral integrity, investigations into past incidents of violence, and missing IT equipment from the Electoral Commission’s warehouse as prerequisites for their participation in any peace agreements.

Their stance suggests a firm position on ensuring justice and reforms before committing to future peace processes.

Meanwhile, the National Peace Council, led by Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, is striving to foster peace among political parties, emphasizing the need for cooperation, goodwill, and trust to ensure peaceful elections.

However, Nketia’s call for action and accountability show the NDC’s commitment to addressing past grievances before moving forward with any pact.

This sets the stage for potentially intense negotiations ahead of the 2024 elections.
