Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has called for slight tactical adjustments from the Black Stars as they prepare for a pivotal showdown against Croatia in their ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.
Kingston’s comments follow Ghana’s disciplined and resolute performance in their goalless draw against England, a result that highlighted the team’s defensive solidity, organisation, and growing confidence on the world stage.
The Black Stars have made an encouraging start to the tournament, collecting four points from their opening two Group L matches after securing a victory over Panama and holding England to a stalemate. Those results have placed Ghana in a strong position to challenge for a place in the knockout stages.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Kingston expressed confidence in the quality and depth of Otto Addo’s squad, insisting Ghana possesses enough attacking firepower to trouble any team at the tournament.
The former Hearts of Oak and Ghana winger praised the team’s performances so far but stressed that fine-tuning their tactical approach could be crucial in overcoming tougher opposition as the competition progresses.
“We have all the weapons to hurt any opponent,” Kingston said.
While acknowledging that Ghana’s current game plan has delivered positive results, he cautioned that future opponents—particularly Croatia—would have thoroughly analysed the Black Stars’ previous matches and could be better prepared to counter their strengths.
“I believe it has worked for us, but against Croatia, I know they have seen our games and will definitely find solutions to our low block,” he added.
Kingston believes introducing subtle tactical variations could make Ghana less predictable and create more opportunities in attack without compromising the defensive stability that has been central to their success so far.
Ghana currently occupy second place in Group L, level on points with England but trailing the Three Lions on goal difference.
Attention now turns to the decisive encounter against Croatia, with the Black Stars knowing that a positive result would secure qualification to the Round of 32 and mark another significant milestone in their World Cup journey.
Progression to the knockout phase would represent Ghana’s best World Cup achievement since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
With qualification within touching distance, the Black Stars will be eager to build on their strong start and take another step towards creating a memorable World Cup campaign.
