The Ghana Chamber of Mines has closed nominations for the 12th Ghana Mining Industry Awards.
This year’s awards recorded 113 entries, up from 86 last year – a 31.4 percent increase. According to the Chamber, the rise shows growing confidence in the awards scheme as a credible platform for recognising excellence.
The scheme, over the past 12 years, has seen steady growth in participation from mining companies, service providers, professionals and journalists.
One major highlight this year is the media category.
The category which usually averages three entries a year, received nine entries this time around – a three-fold increase.
The Chamber says this is encouraging, given the crucial role of the media in promoting accountability and public understanding of mining.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey says the increase is a strong endorsement of the rigorous and transparent process built over the years.
He adds that the Chamber is also excited about growth in the female technical and non-technical categories, as well as the media category.
Meanwhile, the Adjudicating Board has started assessing all entries. The assessment will be based on evidence, measurable impact, innovation, professional standards and sustainability.
After that, auditors PwC will carry out an independent validation exercise to ensure integrity and credibility before nominees are announced.
The Chamber has thanked all organisations and individuals who submitted entries.
