With Discipline, Unity and a Shared Sense of Purpose, We Will Feed Ghana – President Mahama Launches YEREDUA

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, November 27, launched the Vegetable Development Project (Yeredua) at Kukuom in the Ahafo region, under the government’s flagship Feed Ghana initiative.

The Yeredua project, he explained, is designed to boost vegetable production nationwide and make the sector more attractive to young people.

President Mahama encouraged unemployed youth to take advantage of the new opportunities emerging in modern agriculture, as government intensifies efforts to create jobs, reduce poverty, and improve food security.

He emphasized that the Yeredua initiative is a significant component of the Feed Ghana program and marks a renewed commitment to transforming the vegetable subsector into a modern and competitive industry.

“This initiative represents a bold and strategic step under our flagship Feed Ghana program. It reflects our collective determination to transform Ghana’s vegetable sub-sector into a competitive, technology-driven. It is not just about the commissioning of a project. It is the beginning of a new chapter in our national agricultural renaissance,” he said.

He expressed concern that although vegetables are essential in every Ghanaian household, the country continues to depend heavily on imports due to inadequate domestic production particularly during the dry season resulting in negative economic impacts.

“Vegetables are indispensable to every Ghanaian household. Yet for many years, our inability to produce adequate volumes of these products, particularly during the dry season, has forced us to rely heavily on imports. These imports expose our economy to price fluctuations, foreign exchange losses, and unstable supply chains,” he stated.

President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a modern, resilient agricultural sector that supports farmers at all levels from smallholder to commercial.

“As President, I wish to reaffirm government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure, supporting smallholder, medium and commercial farmers, providing mechanization services, strengthening storage and markets, investing in agro-processing and value chains, building a resilient, technology-enabled, inclusive agricultural sector,” he said.

He concluded with a call for collective dedication to national development.

“With discipline, unity and a shared sense of purpose, we will feed Ghana, we will grow Ghana, and we will transform Ghana. It is now my singular honor to declare the Vegetable Development Project, Yeridia, officially launched here in Kukuom,” he said.
