We will resist any attempt by govt in the sale of kakum national forest reserve —–residents of Abrafu Frame

Some residents of Abrafu Frame a farming community near the Kakum National Park in the central region are vehemently opposing attempt to give a portion of the Kakum National park for mining.

Their reactions came in the wake of an application by a private mining company high street Limited asking for a mining lease to mine in the forest reserve.

The residents fear any mining activity will destroy the forest and the water bodies in the area.

The Minerals Commission has clarified that it has rejected an application by High Street Mining Company Limited to mine in the Kakum National Park in the Central Region.

The commission has also removed the application from the online mining site. In a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, the Minerals Commission emphasized that no mineral rights, whether for prospecting or mining, will be considered or granted within the confines of the Kakum National Park.

The statement comes in response to concerns raised by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the public about the potential impact of mining on the Kakum National Park, a renowned tourist site in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa.
