
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Fisheries Commission, Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service are investigating a fish mortality incident at the Tema Shipyard.
On April 6, 2026, dead fish were found concentrated within a 50-metre radius of the main unloading ramp.
Authorities responded immediately and secured the site.
The public has therefore been Advised not to harvest, purchase, or consume fish or seafood from the Tema Shipyard or adjacent areas until further notice.
The FDA has also asked the public to report dead fish sightings to the FDA Hotline: 0551 112 224/5.
The FDA has also called on anyone who has consumed any fish from the area and experiencing symptoms like nausea or skin irritation to seek medical help.
The public is advised to rely on official channels for updates.
