Legendary reggae pioneer Brinsley Forde is set to make a major return to the spotlight with the release of his new solo single, “Ites Gold & Green,” scheduled to drop on July 23, 2026.
The track serves as the lead offering from Forde’s upcoming album project, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Aswad’s groundbreaking debut album. According to the reggae legend, the project features some of the strongest music of his career, blending timeless roots reggae with a fresh, contemporary sound.
Brinsley Forde is widely celebrated as the founding member of the iconic British reggae band Aswad, whose influence has shaped UK reggae and global music culture for more than five decades. Beyond music, Forde also built an impressive acting career, earning acclaim for his starring role in the classic reggae film Babylon after first appearing as a child actor in Here Comes The Double Deckers.
Rich with conscious lyrics and authentic reggae rhythms, “Ites Gold & Green” explores themes of heritage, unity, and identity—values that have remained central to Forde’s music throughout his remarkable career.
Forde’s outstanding contribution to music has earned him numerous honours, including recognition in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in 2015 for services to music and the arts. In 2021, the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) also honoured him as the founder of Aswad for the group’s immense contribution to reggae.
Reflecting on his lifelong journey, Forde shared the words of his father that continue to inspire him: “Life is a gift, and the way you live your life is your gift to others.”
“Ites Gold & Green” marks Forde’s first major solo release since “Chillin,” featuring David Hinds of Steel Pulse. Throughout his illustrious career, he has collaborated with reggae greats including Bob Marley & The Wailers, Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Big Youth, Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, Dennis Bovell, and Argentina’s Nonpalidece.
With this new chapter, Brinsley Forde continues to cement his legacy as one of reggae’s most influential voices while introducing a new generation of listeners to his timeless message and musical excellence.
