SAGLEMI, Ghana, 20th August: President John Dramani Mahama has urged prospective homeowners to register early when the sales portal for the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project is opened, warning that the houses are likely to attract strong demand.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, President Mahama said the strategic location of the estate, close to major industrial centres, could make the houses particularly attractive to workers and families looking for decent accommodation.
“I want to encourage Ghanaians to register as soon as the sales portal is opened because these houses will be in high demand,” he said.
According to the President, prospective homeowners who delay could find themselves competing with industries in the Tema and Dawa corridors seeking accommodation for their employees.
“If prospective homeowners delay, the many industries located from here through Tema and the Dawa Industrial Park will quickly acquire these houses for their workers,” he warned.
President Mahama, however, stressed that the Saglemi estate would not be limited to industrial workers.
He said the development was intended to provide homes for Ghanaian families who want to own property in a properly planned and serviced community.
The President said the estate would benefit from major infrastructure projects being developed within the corridor, including improved road connectivity, railway infrastructure and access to water.
He disclosed that 700 housing units are expected to be ready for commissioning by March 2027, while 1,500 units are expected to be completed by December 2027.
The first phase forms part of the original 5,000-unit Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, with work expected to begin on the remaining 3,500 units after completion of the initial phase.
President Mahama said the government’s broader objective was to expand housing supply and make home ownership accessible to more Ghanaians.
