President Mahama Hails Ghana’s Hosting of World Assemblies of God Congress as Historic

ACCRA, Ghana, 14th October: President John Dramani Mahama has described Ghana’s hosting of the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship as a historic moment for the country and the African continent.

He said the gathering represented a significant milestone, noting that he believed it is the first global congress of a church to be held in Ghana and the first World Congress of the Assemblies of God Church to take place in Africa.

Speaking at the opening ceremony at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama welcomed delegates from different countries and cultures who had gathered to deliberate on the future of the global Christian fellowship.

“History is being made today because I believe this is the first global congress of any church to be held in Ghana and definitely, definitely the first World Congress of the Assemblies of God Church to be held in Africa,” he said.

On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, the President extended a warm welcome to participants, using the Ghanaian expression “Akwaaba” and the Ga greeting “Oobake.”

He said the congress provides an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to unite around a shared faith and purpose.

President Mahama also expressed personal appreciation for the gathering, revealing that he and the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, attended the event not only as President and First Lady but also as members of the Assemblies of God Church.

He thanked Assemblies of God Ghana, the organisers, volunteers, congregations and public institutions that contributed to hosting the international event.

With more than 10,000 participants expected to take part in the congress, the President expressed hope that visitors would experience Ghana’s hospitality and establish friendships that would endure beyond the gathering.

He urged delegates to use the opportunity to strengthen relationships, develop partnerships among churches and support communities facing hardship.

President Mahama also expressed the hope that the congress would promote opportunities for young people, improve cooperation among congregations and deepen the global fellowship’s commitment to peace.

The congress is being held under the theme, “Commissioned, One Mandate, Every Nation,” drawing inspiration from Jesus Christ’s Great Commission in Matthew 28:18–20.

The President concluded by wishing delegates fruitful deliberations, a memorable stay in Ghana and safe journeys home.
