President Mahama Urges Public Officers to Demonstrate Honesty, Integrity

ACCRA, Ghana, 14th October: President John Dramani Mahama has called on public officers to allow their faith and moral convictions to guide their conduct, stressing that leadership must be demonstrated through humility, honesty and integrity.

He said those entrusted with public office has a particular responsibility to ensure that their values translated into fair and conscientious service to citizens.

Speaking at the opening of the 10th Triennial Congress of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama urged leaders to remain attentive to the concerns of people whose voices were often overlooked.

“For those of us who are entrusted with public office, this entails a particular responsibility. Our faith should deepen our humility. It must strengthen our respect for our citizens. It must imbue us with honesty and integrity,” he said.

The President emphasised that religious commitment should influence how leaders perform their duties, treat citizens and respond to injustice.

He noted that prayers offered for political leaders carried a solemn obligation to serve the public conscientiously.

“The prayers offered for leaders impose on us a solemn obligation to serve conscientiously,” he stated.

President Mahama also called on churches to maintain their moral independence and speak truthfully about injustice and suffering, while promoting responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence.

He said the impact of leadership should ultimately be measured by the difference it makes in people’s lives rather than the distinctions associated with public office.

“I dedicate myself to serve with humility and to remain mindful that the most enduring measure of leadership is the difference that it makes in the lives of people,” he said.

The President was addressing delegates from different countries who had gathered in Accra for the global congress, which is being held under the theme, “Commissioned, One Mandate, Every Nation.”
