President Mahama Cuts Sod for Tema Integrated Industrial Park, Promises Over 6,000 Jobs

TEMA, Ghana, 30th June: President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut sod for the construction of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), a major industrial development project expected to accelerate Ghana’s industrialisation agenda, create jobs, and attract significant investment into the economy.

The sod-cutting ceremony brought together key government officials, development partners, industry stakeholders and representatives of financial institutions. Among those present were the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei; the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

The Tema Integrated Industrial Park is a joint venture between TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), and Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (Arise IIP), being implemented through Tema Integrated Industrial Parks Limited.

Located within the Tema Heavy Industrial Area, approximately seven kilometres from the Tema Port, the 83.5-hectare industrial enclave is strategically positioned to serve as a hub for manufacturing, processing, logistics and export-oriented industries.

The project is aligned with the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative and is expected to generate more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs upon completion.

Officials say the industrial park will play a crucial role in attracting foreign direct investment, promoting technology transfer, enhancing skills development and strengthening local industrial value chains.

The project is also expected to boost value addition, support import substitution and increase exports, helping position Ghana as a leading industrial and trade hub in West Africa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Nunekpeku, described the project as a transformative partnership aimed at advancing Ghana’s industrialisation drive through investment promotion, job creation and sustainable economic growth.

Managing Director, Banking Operations at the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), Kwabena Ayirebi said the launch sends a strong signal to the international business community that Ghana is ready for investment and industrial expansion.

“This ceremony is a declaration that Ghana is open for industrialisation, Ghana is ready for investors, and Ghana means business,” he stated.

Cluster Director of Arise IIP, Munish Gupta, said the project reflects the strong collaboration between the Government of Ghana and its development partners to drive sustainable industrial growth.

According to him, the industrial park will leverage world-class infrastructure, strategic connectivity and strong institutional support to create employment opportunities, attract investment and strengthen local industries.

Arise IIP also announced that its strategic partner, Afreximbank, has made available a US$1 billion financing facility for investors and manufacturers operating across Arise industrial parks, including the Tema Integrated Industrial Park in Ghana.

The facility is expected to support industrial enterprises and accelerate private sector-led growth across the continent.

Arise IIP currently operates 24 industrial parks across 15 African countries and has helped create more than 42,000 jobs through its integrated industrial ecosystem model.

The Tema Integrated Industrial Park is expected to become a key pillar of Ghana’s industrial transformation strategy, supporting economic diversification, export competitiveness and long-term sustainable development.
