TEMA, Ghana, 30th June: The government has taken a major step toward accelerating industrial growth and job creation with the launch of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), a flagship project expected to generate more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs and attract significant local and foreign investment.
President John Dramani Mahama officially cut sod for the construction of the industrial enclave in Tema, describing the project as a critical component of Ghana’s broader industrial transformation agenda.
The park, located within the Tema Heavy Industrial Area and approximately seven kilometres from the Tema Port, is expected to become a key manufacturing, processing and export hub serving both regional and continental markets.
The 83.5-hectare development is being undertaken through a partnership involving TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), and Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (Arise IIP).
The project aligns with the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy and is expected to stimulate economic activity through value addition, technology transfer, skills development and stronger local supply chains.
Industry experts believe the industrial park could significantly improve Ghana’s competitiveness within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by providing world-class infrastructure for manufacturers and exporters.
The facility is expected to support import substitution while encouraging export-oriented production, helping Ghana expand its industrial base and reduce reliance on imported goods.
Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Nunekpeku, described the project as a transformative initiative that will drive investment promotion, industrialisation and sustainable economic growth.
He said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating opportunities for businesses while generating employment for thousands of Ghanaians.
The project also received a significant boost with the announcement that Afreximbank has made available a US$1 billion financing facility for investors and manufacturers operating within Arise industrial parks across Africa, including the Tema Integrated Industrial Park.
Officials say the availability of financing, coupled with the park’s strategic location and modern infrastructure, will help attract global manufacturers and strengthen Ghana’s ambition of becoming a leading industrial and logistics hub in West Africa.
Once operational, the Tema Integrated Industrial Park is expected to play a pivotal role in driving exports, creating employment opportunities and supporting the country’s long-term economic transformation agenda.
