President John Dramani Mahama has commenced his one-day official visit to Paris with a high-level meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher.
The Ghanaian leader was accorded a ceremonial military welcome ahead of the bilateral discussions, underscoring the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and France.
Talks between the two leaders focused on deepening cooperation in key areas, including trade and investment, regional security, and the fight against terrorism.
They also explored France’s continued support for Ghana in maternal health and agriculture, while acknowledging the significant strides made in Ghana’s economic recovery under President Mahama’s leadership.
President Mahama is accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Dr Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Mavis Frimpong.
Later today, President Mahama and his delegation are expected to hold crucial talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.
Prior to his arrival in Paris, President Mahama delivered a keynote address at the high-level One Health Summit in Lyon on Tuesday, April 7, where he served as Co-Chair.
In his address, he highlighted the growing global threat posed by interconnected challenges such as infectious disease outbreaks, antimicrobial resistance, and disruptions in food systems.
He warned that these crises are intensifying with alarming frequency and complexity, calling for coordinated global action to safeguard public health and ensure sustainable development.
