Otumfuo commits to assisting in the operationalization of Sewua Hospital.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has affirmed his commitment to tackling the obstacles preventing the opening of Sewua Hospital, vowing to intervene with relevant authorities.

During his inspection of the project site, the Asantehene engaged with contractors and healthcare officials to address the challenges impeding the facility’s operationalization. Despite the completion of essential installations and the facility itself, issues such as inadequate electricity supply and poor road networks have delayed its inauguration.

The Sewua Hospital project, designed as a 290-bed facility to serve as a regional hospital for the Ashanti Region, received attention from Otumfuo during his visit. Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, confirmed Otumfuo’s commitment to expediting the facility’s operationalization.

Dr. Tinkorang stated that Otumfuo has pledged to engage with relevant authorities to ensure swift action, addressing any delays in the process. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, particularly with the ongoing renovation of Komfo Anokye Hospital, which could strain healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

Highlighting the need for an adequate power supply, Dr. Tinkorang mentioned that the facility requires a transformer capable of powering all equipment. Although the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has provided two transformers, additional steps are needed to connect them to the main power lines for testing.

In summary, Otumfuo’s intervention and support signal a promising step towards overcoming the challenges hindering the operationalization of Sewua Hospital, thereby improving healthcare services in the Ashanti Region.
