Mustapha Gbande warns against rigging the 2024 elections, declaring the NDC is no longer just a “Peace Council.”

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has issued a stern warning regarding the importance of ensuring free and fair elections in 2024. Expressing concerns over the alleged rigging in the 2020 general elections, Gbande emphasized the potential dire consequences of a similar occurrence in 2024.

Speaking on Accra-based Ahotor 92.3 FM, Mr. Gbande highlighted the recent incident involving missing Electoral kits from the Electoral Commission. He emphasized that such occurrences raise red flags, indicating a potential threat to the integrity of the electoral process. Mr. Gbande asserted that the NDC would not remain passive if there were any indications of electoral malpractice in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In response to explanations provided by the Electoral Commission, which stated that it was laptops rather than BVD machines that went missing, Mr. Gbande expressed skepticism. He argued that the nature of the stolen items suggests a level of sophistication beyond typical theft, as ordinary laptop thieves wouldn’t target the Electoral Commission for such devices. This further fueled concerns about the security and transparency of the electoral process.

Mr. Gbande’s remarks underscore the critical need for accountability and transparency in the electoral process to safeguard democracy and ensure the will of the people is upheld. As the 2024 elections approach, Mr. Gbande’s warning serves as a call to action for all stakeholders to prioritize the integrity of the electoral system and uphold democratic principles.
