Manganese production to exceed 5million tonnes in 2024 – Chamber of mines

The Ghana Chamber of Mines says, it expects Manganese production in 2024 to exceed 5million tonnes.

The Chamber said, this will mark the highest in 3 years and once again solidify the country’s position as one of the highest producers on the African continent.

Speaking at a breakfast meeting with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, President of the chamber, Joshua Mortorti bemoan some factors affecting the extractive sector.

He pointed the encroachment of illegal miners and high fiscal and regulatory cost as affecting production.

“Regarding Manganese production, the plan of outlook for 2024 is expected to double to 5million tonnes” he said.

“The main downside race however to the overall mining production outlook in 2024 includes; a high fiscal and regulatory cost, encroachment of concessions by illegal miners and sometimes, we not being too sure about policies with respect to implementation of say the gold for oil program and the impact on its operations on small scale mining”.
