“Look Beyond the Big Names!” – Holy Slip-x Challenges Ghana’s Music Industry

Ghana’s music conversation took a bold and thought-provoking turn when rising artist Holy Slip-x made a powerful statement during an interview on Ahotor Mmre, hosted by Obaapa Janee on Ahotor FM earlier today.

When asked whether the music industry is fair to upcoming musicians, Holy Slip-x didn’t hold back. In a passionate response, he questioned the industry’s heavy reliance on already established stars, especially when it comes to global recognition, such as the Grammy Awards.

“We want to get Grammy, but the people we are expecting to take it for us are unable to. Why won’t we search for new talents who might take the Grammy for us?” he quizzed.

The emerging artist pointed out what he believes is a major gap in Ghana’s music ecosystem—the lack of investment in fresh talent. According to him, stakeholders including the media, producers, and investors often overlook rising acts, choosing instead to focus on already established names.

Holy Slip-x emphasised that if Ghana truly aims to compete on the global stage, there must be a deliberate shift in strategy—one that includes nurturing and promoting upcoming musicians who may carry the next big breakthrough.

“It’s like the music industry lacks a technical eye,” he added, suggesting that talent discovery and development are not being handled with the depth and vision required.

Is Ghana missing out on global success by not giving enough attention to its emerging talents?

Voices like Holy Slip-x are calling for change, and they are doing so loudly. Whether the industry will respond remains to be seen, but the message has been delivered: the next Grammy winner might just be an undiscovered talent waiting for the right opportunity.
